System Status Report Thread

Postby Mithrandir » Thu Jun 23, 2005 7:27 pm

OK. I'm going to post some generic stuff here about system outages, etc. It saves having to clutter up this area with a new announcement about stuff that pleanty of people won't care about.

Anyway, looks like we had about a 30 hour outage over the last few days. From 3:15 is yesterday until today at 7:30ish.

This time frame represents how long it took me to try to login. Sorry!

Yeah. The ISP that controls the POP (point of presense) did some "work" on it. One of these days we'll learn how to have backup lines... lol

Update. Looks like we had a sysetm outage from 5:15 last night until about that time this morning (Pacific time). Looks like we're overheating. I've shutdown one of the systems that was contributing to the heat exaustion and I'm hoping that's enough. If not, I'll have to do some creative rewiring.

I don't see us taking donations of any sort for a while. We've discussed this in the past, but it would truly complicate matters with the IRS and what have you if we were to take donations. We want to do everything we can to keep this place running freely, and fully trusting the Lord to provide for all our needs.

Did you guys have server problems again today at all? I tried to come on for a little bit this morning just before heading off to work (about 7:00 MST) and couldn't connect.

OK. There was an outage today from around 3:30 until around 4:30. The good news is, I think our backup scripts are nearly finished.

Yup. It got you. I have a record of the system having issue with soapman, soul alive, firestorm, calbach, Sagi_AI-kahira. Sorry, guys!

As for the hiccup. That's what I call it. It means error, but it's quickly recoverable, so hiccup sound less drastic to the end user than, say, "THE DATABASE CRASHED! WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!"

Believe it or not, I've seen that as an error on a site once. :eyeroll:

You should do that to our error screens. Sure, it'd give 80% of the members here a heart attack, but it'd sure be funny. XD

Yes, there are already quite a few joke error messages on the internet. If we could think of some creative ones I wouldn't mind them for CAA, though in all honesty they aren't common enough to matter greatly.
