I'm pretty excited myself with the new characters. XD I hope the rest of this chapter will receive positive responses. FYI, the rest of the chapter will most likely be posted by the end of this week or next week the latest (should some random delay occur).

XDDD!! I hope to see the fruits of your work soon. You have so much potential! To answer your question, I think it takes approximately 3-4 hours (?) to complete a single page from the rough sketch right up to the final digital additions.

I meant to post this the other day and wandered off somewhere before doing so. The discussion at the Bible study seemed very natural to me. I know that's a topic that causes a lot of questions from Christians - new Christians especially. You handled it well and I personally agree with your stance on it (I assume it's your personal take, anyway ^^).

And Linda's hair looks awesome, btw.

Gypsy, that's good to hear coz I based that bible study off one of my previous college fellowship. ^^ Personal experience plays a major role in deciding some content of my manga.

Oh btw, the rest of Chapter 3 is up. (^___^) Hope you have fun with all 18 pages~

Very glad to see the rest of the chapter up. The improvement in your writing continues to show.

One note: you're introducing characters and plot elements rather quickly. I'll reserve actual judgement on that until I see how it is handled in the future; it could be positive or negative.

With the entire chapter, I'll have to revise my opinion: I don't particularly care for Gil and I find the Cain/Abel issue fascinating.

The introduction of Doug's sister was... interesting. I must say, though, that Doug's appearance was quite cool. You know, you didn't every state her name.

I will be very interested in seeing where you take this.

I'm interested to know myself. God help me. (@_@);;; LOL

It's all in my head at this point. Eventually, I'll have to sit down and write it all out before it's too late. Thanks for your helpful insight, UC. XD

Break

Postby Mave » Thu Oct 20, 2005 6:41 pm

I guess I should make an announcement here.

I'm officially taking a break from mangakaing (~ 2 weeks or so). Life has been pretty stressful and I think there's nothing like a short retreat to refresh the spiritually restless and physically exhausted Mave. Don't you think so?

Forgive me for sounding selfish here but your prayers on my behalf are deeply deeply appreciated. Pls pray that as I draw in the future, may I keep my mind pure and Christ-centered. Thanks and sorry for the delay!

Keep up the GOoD work

Postby Falcon » Thu Oct 20, 2005 8:02 pm

Wow,

Be encouraged Mave this is an excellant work that youare doing. I pray that you will have a fresh understanding and a new revelation of who God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit is to you. May The Lord direct your paths in peace and may His grace be on you always.

May the compassion of Christ be manifested through you into this world as you let your light shine.

We all need a little sabbath every now and again. It seems that our father really does just want to have an awesome relationship with us. He wants us to be in a place where we are humbled by His amazing Love.

Seek the Kingdom of God and all these things shall be added to you. The Kingdom of God , is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

I know that stress in life is not pleasant. But it is through these times that we grow stronger as we submit ourselves to the one who is strength and Life.

God Bless
Love Light Life -
be these and it could cost you your Pride.
do not be them and you will sure keep your Pride.
But certainly lose your Love, Light and Life.

Love God, Love People.

Chapter 4 begins....

Postby Mave » Wed Nov 09, 2005 4:00 pm

Considering that visitors voted "multiple pages per week" as the preferred update frequency, I could at least try to honor that option. Heh.

I aim to add ~ 1-3 pages each week (around Wed?). Only thing is I don't know how consistent I can maintain that type of schedule. But hey, I'll try my best. :thumb:
Chapter 4. Pg 0-1 added.

Btw, Falcon, that was very encouraging. I sincerely appreciate your words. *bows*

Very nice to see more pages from you.

Meanwhile, this wasn't quite what I was expecting (from the first version of the story and from random speculation). I'll be waiting to see where you go with this element of the story.

This is great stuff, Mave! :thumb: I'm not surprised, though, cuz, well, you're Mave! ;) Keep up the good work. I'm looking forward to reading more.

Hey Roger, better late than never. =D Thanks! Anyone is welcomed to give me plot suggestions or opinions. Issh, I still have so much to learn and I know that I'll never be able to please everyone...

UC, I surprise myself when I look back the older files...something in the lines of :eh: "What on earth were you thinking?" Hopefully, I'll concoct something that makes more sense this time with better planning in hand.

Looks like the weekly update could vary in the number of pages depending on my personal schedule. Also, the current reading format is designed for the addition of whole chapters. I wonder how important it is to readers to have access to individual pages, rather than having to start from the beginning. With that said, 2 pages have been added.

This has been the experience of many writers, including myself.

They can always manually change the URL if necessary. This may be inconvenient, however, and I think that if you intend to keep your update schedule you should probably create an easier way to access the pages.

It's looking good Mave. Can't wait for more. I love in chapter 3 of Home when the pastor was burning the cigarettes on the grill with a passion. That was so funny.

LOL well, if that's the case, at least feel free to point out anything that doesn't make sense. Email or PM preferably.
This has been the experience of many writers, including myself.
I'm relieved to hear that. It does no good to my spirit whenever I convince myself that I must have concocted the most corny/cheesy/lame/nonsensical/[insert adverb in regards to poor writing] stories in the world. Nevertheless, I have the opinion that we must be willing to commit mistakes in regards to plot-writing in order to grow. (-_-)\\ Haih..

Thanks for this opinion. I've made the amendments and I think other readers will appreciate them. With that said, 4 pages added.

Shao, thanks. I love that scene too. Been wanting to do that in real life. Seriously.

Anony-san, where have you been? Good to have you back. >=)

I will try, but I can't say I'll be much help. Generally speaking I hold out that the author will make everything make sense for quite a long time.

LOL You have way more faith in me than I do myself.

Anyway, just a quick comment about the latest update (Pg 8-9): I honestly don't know what else to use apart from "Teacher's Room." Thoughts?

If it is what I think it is, they have generally been labeled "Teachers Lounge" in my experience. In that form, an apostrophe is unnecessary because "teachers" serves as an adjective. Sorry if I just stated the obvious.

I never considered the apostrophe before and I agree with you. I'll note that down and hope that I'll remember to change that. Comment noted, thanks!

Making Gil both intelligent and partier isn't exactly an original maneuver, but it works pretty well. I'll be interested to see how you handle it.

Otherwise, a minor note: I'm not sure how you've set up the manga-viewing pages, but occasionally you don't change the last page so it can move on. That is, Page 11 says "to be continued" instead of having a "Next" link. Just so you know whenever you find time to work on the site.

Being a huge fan of KingdomCome and I havn't checked it out for a while now.

I love what you did with this Mave. Very good and the art is alot better! You also seem to be taking the story at a slower pace.

Keep it up :)

Final Update for 2005

Postby Mave » Thu Dec 29, 2005 9:36 pm

Daijobu Hitokiri. XD Feel free to drop by whenever you have the time.

I have to confess that I've become fond of Gil and have yet another idea for a short side story, which focuses on Gil and Mr. McCoy. (<.<;; ) A 2006 project, perhaps?

Anyway, as for this update, I've just completed Chapter 4 (phew) and will take a 1 week break with this title since I do need to wrap up some other projects/requests.

***********************************

With the 2005 ending in the next few days, I can't help looking back to see how much I've accomplished in regards to mangakaing. Artwise, I feel more comfortable with a certain style despite having the chance to experiment with more screentones/layers. I've recently started to use font type BadaBoom for sound effects and have maintained Anime Ace as the basic font. If anyone cares, you can opt for Letter-o-Matic as a base font (Blambot.com).

For screentones, I've started to use dot tones along with solid color shadings and gradients in extra layers. Hopefully, they contribute richness to the pages. Panel-wise, I feel pretty good using solid boxed panels (inspired by Naruto manga). I've also noticed that I hardly use those flowery/bubbles/sentimental themes typical in shoujo manga but I doubt that's a bad thing at all.

Story-wise, as most of you have noticed, I've been going at a slower pace. Before I start making my characters run around, I guess I should allow readers to get to know them first. You know what I mean? LOL Revamping the story has been a great success as it has provided me great opportunities to put more thought into the plot. When I first started this title, I didn't take it seriously and now, I'm glad I'm finally doing so with this revamp. Introducing new characters and modifying original characters (Linda and Richard/Paul - what huge changes! :eh: ) has given me great joy and motivation to continue this series. I personally get an extra kick from including characters from HOME. If you enjoyed those crossovers, you're in for a treat for I intend to add more in future chapters.

Speaking of HOME, 2005 marks the year where I completed my first manga series. It may have been a short series but I feel good knowing that I've reached the final mark in a project.

I would like to take this opportunity to everyone who has supported me in some way this year. It has been a tough year, with me finally getting out of graduate school (yes!!), moving to a new location and taking on an internship in the corporate world. I certainly had a lot of adjusting to do then......and then, here came more life issues such as breakups, job-searching and preparation to move back to my home country. (@_@)

2005 has been a crazy year indeed. Sure, there were a lot of tears and fears but it has its equal share of joys and reliefs. *raises coffee mug* Here's a toast to more webmangakaing fun in 2006! XD XD

Happy New Year, everyone!

Regarding the previous update: I was interested in the tie-in to Home. Actually, I feel like I should have recognized their teacher a long time ago, so that probably says something good about your ability to age characters.

As for the ending of chapter four... hm, I reserve any judgement.

Wondering what happened between Gil and Mr. Mccoy is killing me! lol but I guess I'll have to wait like everyone else.

I think it's awesome that you tied in the characters from HOME btw ^-^

You've done a great job revamping it Mave ^_^

I agree; I like how you're developing Gil and Mr. McCoy thus far, and the connection is a nice little mystery that's a great hook for the story. :thumb:

Now back to my gazillion projects. :stressed:

Gazillion projects, Loch? Hehe....I've been trying to kill some of them off but they won't go away. Good to have you back.

Yeahh! Roger and Sakura, if this year's schedule permits me, I will devise a short story to explain Gil and Mr. McCoy.

UC, reserve away but I'm sure I won't score points in originality.

Anyway, Chapter 5 begins and I'll spoil everyone by declaring that I haven't killed any major characters.....yet.
