New style

Postby Straylight » Wed Jan 07, 2004 5:26 am

I've uploaded the new style. If you see any of the old style bits (in blue), hitting shift refresh on the offending page should fix it. Thanks to everyone who put up with the sloppy upgrade. Enjoy! :)

BTW, Mozilla users may notice a few minor table rendering errors. This is the result of some Mozilla CSS bugs. Things seem to actually render more nicely in IE. :)

There is also an enhanced WYSIWYG editor accessable via the user control panel, under options. This allows you to see formatting and images inserted as you compose your message.

I like it. ^_^ Thanks, d... um, straylight.;)

[size=84][color=seagreen]YOU SEE

You see into the deepest part of me ---

beyond the fog I hide behind.

You cast your light upon the shadows

that stretch like cobwebs in my mind.

You ease the pain when I am hurting,

and morbid visions from my past

pierce into the realm of Reason

as though I danced on blades of glass.

You grant me strength when I have fallen

and, once again, I've lost my way.

You take my hand in Yours and lead me

into the promise of a brand new day.

You bring order to all my chaos,

yet set my well-laid plans awry.

You place me on a firm foundation ---

then give me wings so I can fly.

You sand away my roughened edges

and polish all the dullest parts

until I stand before Your presence...

a newly-sculpted work of art.

You see into the heart within me,

right through my motives and selfish will.

And yet, in spite of all You see

You say You love me even still.

I hate to complain, but I'm not sure I like the new design.... it looks fine overall, but quite a bit of the width of the screen is lost in both the edge graphics on the page layout and with putting the user info on the side (though I do like it on the side).

It does seem to hold the width better though.... wide signatures don't appear to force side-scrolling like the old design. I think a new "Signature width" might have to be calculated for 800x600 users though.

Heck, this could look like poo and I'd still show up to read, so I guess it doesn't matter, it's still functional....

One suggestion, the Thread Name and author both use the same font and size, this is a bit confusing.... un-bolding the author's name might fix that nicely (this is on the thread listings.)

We'll see how this goes.... either way, good job.... umm... straylight! ;)

I'm definately considering making a stripped down "lite" version of the skin, which will be faster for people on slower connections...

The name appears in bold, so I figured it'd be okay. I might italicise it too, though.

Woah! Very nice! I love the style of the tops and bottoms of... everything. The top of each page, for example, looks really nice and it seems more comfortable to have the main links in the center instead of on that tiny, off-to-the-side bar.

Umm, I do have to agree with madphilb, though, on the fact that things seem kinda squished horizontally... I have to scroll down to see ANY topic lists on the main forum page which stinks. As nice as the side borders look, it would be better if the content had more room... at least for us 800x600 users

Some things that I don't like about the posts themselves are the background for the user info ( IMHO I, uh, don't like it  ) and the fact that the AIM links and stuff are on the side. They really are better placed on the bottom; look how much empty space on the page gets created when you move em! XD One thing I did like, though, was that when you click on someone's name it takes you to their profile ;) I've been hoping you'd do that for a long time! And the dropdown makes it even cooler!

Anyway, that is my review. All in all, great job dj - uh - Straylight :thumb:

Ooooh, I likey...^^ Actually, I kinda like the background behind the user stats... It seems a little narrow, but I'm just used to it taking up the full screen width.

It looks really good _ ! The links at the top load slow at first, but now that they're cached that shouln't be a problem now.

Having read through the pages yesterday and been reading today, I like the new layout.... as someone mentioned in another thread there is a lack of gender on the user-info, but I'm sure you'll have that back in eventually....

The biggest problem I've noticed is with wide posts (specifically wide signatures)... I mentioned that they don't force the page to scroll sideways, but at the same time I didn't notice that the text is wrapped to the width of the widest part of the post ... in the end you wind up with text running off the side of the message box and off the screen at times.

I'd just run a higher resolution (which would fix most of them) but either my eyes or my monitor isn't up to the task (gets all fuzzy). I don't think there is an easy solution to the problem either.

Aside from that I'm liking the new look.... I guess I've gotten over the intitial shock period and am settling in (had the same problem going from Opera to Firebird, now I don't think I'd go back).
