Avatars

Postby Straylight » Fri Jan 09, 2004 4:24 am

At the moment the avatar size limit is broken. However, despite this please do NOT post an avatar that is bigger than 110x110 pixels. Any avatars found to be larger than this limit will be deleted without question.

Thanks :)

edits to add: Filesize limit of 15k as well. If you had a large or movie avatar and it disappeared, you know why :)

I noticed this last night when somebody had like, the biggest av I've ever seen o_O Then I was happy when I realized I didn't have to size down my av before I could use it here XD Maybe I should just start making them all 90x90 instead of 100x100...

And here I thought 46*44 was big. (Maybe it was at one point.)

^sigh^ I don't even know what a pixel limit is.

And I hope my current Duo av isn't over the limit. I think the swinging braid is cute. :)

I would prefer that the limit be kept at 110x110. I can't tell you how many times I found a cool avatar that was something like 90x91 pixels and I couldn't have it under the old system. Of course if it does go back to 90x90, I will just go back to my trusty 80x80 mounted knight avatar, so it isn't a big deal.

Get IrfanView and resize the avatar.... the only problem might be with transparency....

I agree with this. :) I like to change avatars often, and 110x110 is a good size. It's the size used at the Christian Forums board, also. :)

Avatar sizes are most likely to stay at 90x90 once it's fixed -- I see no point in having it at 110 - it just places more load on the server. If you see a large avatar, why not resize it yourself? It's quite easy to do even if you don't have Photoshop/PSP -- just download the GIMP - which is free. (Find it on Google). I expect that resizing an avatar in the GIMP would be a fairly simple process (I haven't tried this myself though).

If you want large pictures with nice graphics and stuff, that's what the sigs are for.

How does one go about placing a picture in one's sig?

To put a pic in your sig you have to have it uploaded to some space that allows direct linkage, then put the URL for it in image tags like so [ img] http://www.website.com/picture.gif [ img] (sans the spaces of course)

90X90 never squared with me, pardon the pun. I prefer 100X100 the average size forums use as the avatar limit.
