Being logged off

Postby Kokhiri Sojourn » Thu Jan 22, 2004 3:20 pm

I have a bit of a problem with this, and it has happened to my friend also. If I am writing a reply to a thread and it is a decent length (in other words, it takes some time to write the reply), when I click on submit, the response on the following page is that I am no longer logged on, and the message is completely gone. This has happened a few times, and usually after that I don't end up posting because of it. So is there a certain length that you can be on before you are automatically logged off? If so, how long is it? Just for future reference. I understand that people may forget they are on, and leave the room or something, putting them permanently on the board, so I see why. Just wondering and a bit frustrated. No problem regardless, though. :)

As far as I know, vB shouldn't log people out unless they click the "log out" button.

Please see this thread:

You may want to try clearing your cookies because some of the cookies from the old CAA may be clashing with the new ones.

And what is it that I'm supposed to do again?? I'm quite confused. So this shouldn't be happening and I have a bug?? How do I clear cookies? Too many questions... Okay, I'm on the computers at school, which have wondows XP and the school web site comes up when I hit the internet key. I'm not fluent in computer - sorry! At home we have integrity online, and it did the same thing there also.

Yeah, there seems to be a 'zombie time'. If you haven't done anything in a while, it'll log you out. It's happened to me before.

I definately suspect a cookie problem - to clear cookies go to Tools > Internet Options and click the "Clear Cookies" button. (Internet Explorer). You might not have access to this on a school network

Also, can someone with this problem please report the bug as described by the following thread?

Thanks.

Actually, just so you know, I've had this problem too. I assumed that there was a length-to-timeout or some session settings or something...

People who write below their abilities in order to crank out tons of books and make a buck. Especially Christian authors who do that. Outsiders judge us for it, and make fun of us for it, and it makes Jesus look bad. We of all artists on earth should be the most concerned with doing our best possible work at all times. We of all people should write with all our hearts, as if writing for the Lord and not for men.

So am I. It usually occurs after 10 minutes or so. I should spy on the cookie headers I'm getting back.

Hmmm. Try logging out, and then logging in again using the login box at the top of the screen. Make sure that the "Remember Me" box is checked when you enter your username and password. I think that when it's unchecked, your session expires after a certain period of inactivity.

Wow, I was beginning to think I was "special." I'm glad I'm not the only one. If it happens again, I'll definitely be more careful and tell you what goes on - I just can't remember specifically with much accuracy. Thanks for your help thus far though. :thumb:
